Savor the New South
Ask any local and they’ll tell you the hardest question to answer is “What’s for dinner?” From award-winning fine dining to backyard barbecue joints, there is no shortage of amazing eateries in Birmingham.
While southern classics like pulled pork and fried chicken are no stranger to our menus, Birmingham delivers culinary diversity that reflects the backgrounds of its residents. From a secret Szechuan menu to contemporary fusion options, every taste bud will stay satisfied.
Food isn’t the only thing we’ve got going for us though. Birmingham’s beverages rock a class of their own. Downtown is abuzz with fun cocktail bars while our many local breweries serve as a second home.

Birmingham is no stranger to the James Beard Awards. Alabama native and Chef Frank Stitt has carved out his culinary home here and it doesn’t go unnoticed. His Highlands Bar & Grill was selected as the Most Outstanding Restaurant in America in 2018, with his pastry chef Dolester Miles winning top prize that year as well. And a handful of former chefs at Highlands have opened up their own stellar restaurants, including Chris Hastings of Hot & Hot Fish Club.
Cheers for Beers
Thanks to a grassroots group known as Free The Hops, Alabama’s craft beer scene has taken off over the last decade. Whether you’re a sour lover or a stout fan, it won’t be hard to find your favorite drink at over a dozen different breweries throughout the metro. And we’ve got reason to brag! Local favorite Good People Brewing Company’s Snake Handler Double IPA is cited as one of the best beers in America.
